Burlingame has always had a really strong sense of community and that was especially prevalent through the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses and patrons alike did their part to support our local community in many ways and it couldn’t be more heart warming to see.
While we continue to persevere, COVID-19 has hurt small businesses and the local community in more ways than one but the general public can make a bigger impact than they might think simply by buying into Burlingame.
So how does one “buy into Burlingame”? Well, here are 6 ways you can…

1) Showing businesses you care.
With local small businesses hurting, a simple purchase is a HUGE sign of support. It is uplifting and increases moral in local merchants who have been hit hard during the pandemic. Don’t forget many of our local small businesses put everything into their businesses and a purchase from them shows them that as a community we have their backs.
2) Money goes back to the community.
This couldn’t be more true. You’re local business owners often live right here in Burlingame. When you buy from a small business, you’re supporting parents who will spend their income on their kid’s soccer team, your local kid’s soccer team which your kid may also be involved in. That’s just one small example but you get where we’re going with this right?
3) The environment…
We never think about the impact our habits have on the environment when we can’t see it. Shopping local is just one small way we can reduce our carbon footprints.
4) Small business donates!
Collectively, small businesses make up a MAJORITY of local non-profit donations. These are the same non-profits that support the local communities and those in them. Shopping small and local is one easy way to continue to support local charities passively.
5) Create Jobs…
You’ve heard that a majority of the U.S workforce is employed at small businesses. Small businesses bring in jobs. They employ local and inject capital into the local economy. Without local jobs, well, do we even need to go there?
6) Support your city!
Love Burlingame? We do too! We think it’s beautiful and lovely to say the least. In order to keep Burlingame the way it is and continue to improve on the quality of life in our beautiful community, the city needs operating capital. A majority of this comes from taxes and permits that small businesses provides. By supporting local businesses you’re supporting your city.
