Updates on the COVID-19 Emergency
An Online Selling Solution for our Local Businesses: LiveShop Inc., an e-commerce platform to enable local shops to sell easily to their local buyers, has decided to offer their platform to all businesses who wish to sell online, or are able to sell curbside, at no cost! With social distancing and stay-at-home directives in place, local businesses have been particularly hard hit. During these trying times, LiveShop has been dedicated to keeping local business running strong. Any business owner can use their online platform to do business without their usual fees—other than credit card fees—until further notice. For more info visit LiveShop, Inc.
A GoFundMe Solution to support our Local Community: A GoFundMe Campaign has been started to support our Mills-Peninsula Medical Center doctors, nurses, techs, secretaries, phlebotomists and scribes who are working tirelessly at the emergency room here in Burlingame AND to support our Burlingame restaurants and their workers through this challenging time. Please visit Meals for Mills/Restaurant Rescue to learn more!
Single Use Bag Regulation Change: Burlingame has suspended enforcement of its single use bag regulations during the current COVID-19 emergency. This means that essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and take-out and delivery restaurants will not be required to charge for single use bags. Each business can determine for itself what measures are appropriate to protect its workers and the public, including limiting the use of reusable bags if necessary. The City will notify businesses 30 days before the single use bag regulations go back into effect.
Support for Local Non-Profits: The California statewide Shelter in Place order, including San Mateo County, is critical to keeping us healthy, but it means schools and many businesses have closed and non-profits are facing increased demand for services with fewer staffing resources. Here is a link to support our local non profits: San Mateo County Strong
Small Business Relief: The Small Business Relief Initiative was started by GoFundMe to help small businesses that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and empower their communities to rally behind them. GoFundMe has partnered with Yelp and Intuit QuickBooks to provide small business owners with the financial support and resources needed to continue running their businesses during and after the coronavirus crisis: Go Fund Me
Resources Available for Employees: What employees are entitled to during the Covid-19 pandemic may be confusing. This link provides a chart of what resources are available: Employment Development Department
We are Open for Business: You can continue to find many of our businesses online 24/7, many open for food to go orders and always on their social channels to help with anything you need. Please also note that our Downtown Farmer’s Market is open as it is considered an essential food provider - we would just remind everyone to be aware of Social Distancing when visiting the Farmer's Market. Open Businesses
Please stay safe and healthy, and thank you to everyone for being loyal customers and a valued members of our Burlingame community.
